In 1977 South Florida was ground zero to a movement of athletes breaking gravity in the sports of surfing and skateboarding. A local concert promoter harnessed the energy and created The Van, Surf and Skateboard Exposition (VSSE). The event was held annually and showcased the nomadic vibe of van life combined with the skill of an “extreme sports” movement yet to be defined.

Within 3 years, the VSSE had become the premier surf, skate and music festival in Florida. In mid 1980’s the event took a misturn when the promoters altered its format to the South Florida Summer Expo. This move alienated its core audience eventually ending its momentum.

In 2019 the VSSE relaunched under new ownership with a vision to recapture its place as Florida’s premier sports and music festival.
